Installfest 2009

10:00 - 18:00 7th November 2009
14:00 - 17:00 8th November 2009
Langwith L/N006, Langwith College, University of York

Installfest is our annual gathering of people, equipment and cake to:

  • Give people a chance to try out software
  • Help people installing software and/or whole Linux systems
  • Help people configure software and systems
  • Get in touch with the fun side of geekery

Come along, bring computers if you like, try stuff out, it'll be grand.

Installations

We can help install Linux on your computer. If you're looking to install Linux, you should back up all your data in case something goes wrong (although you ought to have backups anyway). Copy it to DVD or an external drive or networked storage system. If you want to dual-boot your computer, you should also defragment your system and make sure there are several GB of space free to put the Linux system in.

Venue

The venue is a pair of rooms opposite the main entrance to Langwith College at the University of York. We'll try to put up a couple of direction signs around the area. Parking is available in the central car-park. Food is available at lunchtime on campus, and throughout the day in Heslington village. Food isn't permitted in the venue itself, but we'll set up a stall just outside for refreshments.

Contact

Any queries, get in touch - we're pretty approachable.

Many thanks to Computer Recycling Project for equipment and ByteMark for printing asssistance.
